What We Do
The aims of our Society are to bring together all those who are interested in Gateshead Local History; to record information about the town; and to share it with others through meetings, books, talks, local history trails and the internet.
We are also often involved in local projects, such as collecting information about people in Gateshead who were involved in the First World War.
In 2015, Gateshead Council asked us to take over responsibility for erecting Blue Plaques in the 'old Gateshead' area. These Plaques are used to commemorate a famous person or event.
Current Projects
Blue Plaques
We are proud to run Gateshead's Blue Plaques project, which links people and events of the past with current buildings and locations.
1914 Project
Members of Gateshead Local History Society have been researching soldiers who died during the First World War.
Publications
We have a variety of publications available to purchase, including walking tours and books covering the history of Gateshead.
