2026 marks the centenary of Gateshead Central Library. The building has seen many changes over the years and endured through global conflicts, a Covid epidemic and huge changes in science, technology and culture. The Library is included in the Local List – a register of buildings of special architectural or historic interest – and helped to pilot the World’s first digital shopping transaction in 1984. Join Gateshead Archive Manager Jen Bell as she shares some of the historic photographs, records and stories from Central Library’s history in this short talk.
